Can you really market yourself out of hard times?

The short answer is ‘absolutely’. Bill Gates once said: "If I was down to my last dollar, I'd spend it on PR". And he knows a thing or two about business. As a fellow, small business, we’d like to know what would you spend yours on? Add your comments below (sensible ones only please).

In times of economic difficulty, you simply can't afford to cut corners when it comes to promoting your company. In fact, there's never been a more important time to ensure your customers get the right message from you. It’s pretty well documented that if you keep cutting down on your marketing, you will quickly lose your current market share and, even worse, it will take you much longer to get it back when the economy recovers.

We read an analogy the other day that summed the situation up perfectly, it said: "to stop marketing in a recession would be like taking a car engine out at 70mph”. Just imagine that!

But in the current climate, it’s even more imperative that you have a clear strategy, as well as focused and measurable campaigns. Ones that will generate new business and ultimately sales. And maybe you need to be a bit more creative in how you go about it.

Sometimes bringing in a fresh pair of eyes can make all the difference.
